struck : strike의 과거형. strike : (…하다는) 인상[느낌]을 주다

: to cause someone to have a feeling or idea about something:

ex) When I meet the mothers in so many of these remote places, I'm really struck by the things that we have in common. 

ex) I was immediately struck by the similarities between the two murders.
ex) So how does my proposition strike you? (= What do you think of it?)

 

jarring : 삐걱거리는, 귀[신경]에 거슬리는; 

: a jarring sight, sound, or experience is so different or unexpected that it has a strong and unpleasant effect on something or someone:
ex) a jarring cry/chord
ex) jarring colours

ex) I see lots of poverty and it's quite jarring, both in the scale and the scope of it.

far-flung : 1) 형용사 먼, 멀리 떨어진 2) 형용사 널리 퍼진

: used to refer to places that are a great distance away, or something that is spread over a very large area:

ex) She has travelled to the most far-flung corners of the world.

ex) How is it that they can get Coke to these far-flung places?

 

contraceptive : 피임, 피임약, 피임기구 

 : any of various devices or drugs intended to prevent pregnancy:

ex) Are contraceptives (e.g., condoms and pills) easily available in South Korea? 

ex) The clinic provides a free supply of contraceptives upon request.

 

perturb : (심리적으로) 동요하게 하다 (=alarm).

: to worry someone. 

ex) News of the arrest perturbed her greatly.

A sudden sound startled me. (O) 

A sudden sound perturbed me. (O, similar) 

 

the marginalized : the + 형용사(과거분사가 형용사 역할) = 복수보통명사 --> 소외된 사람들 

marginalize : ~를 하찮게 대하다, ~을 소외되게 하다

to treat someone or something as if they are not important:
ex) Now that English has taken over as the main language, the country's native language has been marginalized.

ex) How would you rate your government's services to the marginalized?

hot-button : highly charged; emotional; causes strong opinions/feelings
ex) climate change is a hot-button issue in today's political climate.

consolation : 위안. the comfort received by a person after a loss or disappointment
ex) What could be a possible consolation for winning the popular vote in an election?

unveil : 드러내다. 

 1. (그림·동상 등을 처음으로 공개하기 위해) 덮개를 벗기다[제막식을 하다]

 2. 동사 (새로운 계획·상품 등을) 발표하다 (=reveal)

 1. remove a veil or covering from, in particular uncover (a new monument or work of art) as part of a public ceremony.
 ex) the mayor unveiled a plaque
 2. show or announce publicly for the first time.
 ex) the manufacturer unveiled plans for expanding into aviation


star-studded  /ˈstär ˌstədəd인기 배우[스타]들이 많이 출연하는

ex) On Agust 10, Paramount Pictures unveild a star-studded trailer.
