Last Monday in my ESL class, I read a passage and learned about words and expressions related to the history of agriculture and the advent of the Iron Age.

 

Words/Expressions Meaning
people 민족 
 the human beings of a particular nation or community or ethnic group
millet 수수

sorghum 수수. (h는 묵음) 

traverse  가로지르다, 횡단하다
to go or travel across or over
ex. The explorers set out to traverse the dense jungle, mapping out the uncharted territory as they went.
chariot
/ˈCHerēət/
(이륜) 마차 
a two-wheeled horse-drawn vehicle used in ancient warfare and racing.
carriage  (사륜) 마차 
a four-wheeled passenger vehicle pulled by two or more horses.

cavalry 말을 모는 기사. 
a unit of troops on horseback

carve out sth  ~을 노력하여 얻다, ~을 개척하다. 
to create or obtain something that helps you by skillful activities 
ex. Despite the challenges, she managed to carve out a successful career in the competitive tech industry. <-- carve out: to create or establish something, often in a difficult or competitive environment. 
rewire 전선을 갈다 
Utility pole 전봇대 
 - Electric pole 또는 Telephone pole 이라고 부르기도 한다.
