Last Monday in my ESL class, I read a passage and learned about words and expressions related to the history of agriculture and the advent of the Iron Age.

peoples | 민족 the human beings of a particular nation or community or ethnic group |

sorghum | 수수. (h는 묵음) |
traverse | 가로지르다, 횡단하다 to go or travel across or over ex. The explorers set out to traverse the dense jungle, mapping out the uncharted territory as they went. |

(이륜) 마차 a two-wheeled horse-drawn vehicle used in ancient warfare and racing. |
carriage | (사륜) 마차 a four-wheeled passenger vehicle pulled by two or more horses. |
cavalry | 말을 모는 기사. a unit of troops on horseback |
carve out sth | ~을 노력하여 얻다, ~을 개척하다. to create or obtain something that helps you by skillful activities ex. Despite the challenges, she managed to carve out a successful career in the competitive tech industry. <-- carve out: to create or establish something, often in a difficult or competitive environment. |

Utility pole | 전봇대 - Electric pole 또는 Telephone pole 이라고 부르기도 한다. |
