I usually attend ESL classes at the T branch library, but this was my first time going to the M branch library for it. There, I met new people and reconnected with someone I already knew from the ESL class at the T branch. She's a postdoc in biology who is eager to learn English. Although she knows many sophisticated words, she still attends the class, and her dedication inspires me. I enjoy meeting new people because they give me good energy and inspiration.
In today's class, there was a man from China and a couple from Ukraine. The topic was expressions related to diseases and symptoms, but we talked extensively about Ukrainian culture and food. The teacher, who is Polish American, seemed to share a cultural background with the Ukrainian couple, likely because they're all from Europe. They had an interesting conversation about 'pierogi', a type of dumpling. That was the something I'd never heard of before. I aksed them where I could try that food, and the teacher recommended a Polish restaurant in town. I should go there with my husband.
What I appreciate about the ESL class is that it not only teaches me English but also introduces me various cultures. Additionally, I get to meet new people from all over the world.
