<2021.01.30 (Sat)> - Describing an Encounter With a Millenial 

Go to my friend's house --> I'll go to see my friend.

: 문법적으로 틀린 표현은 아니지만 go to see my friend 가 더 자연스럽다. 

: home vs house 다름. 

 - home : I have lived in Korea more than ten years. Now it feels like home to me. 

 - house : 좀 더 '구조'에 관한 것. roof가 있고.. 이렇게 생겼고...

 

I have never lived there. 

I have never lived abroad. 

 

I want to play with my friends --> I want to hang out with my friends. 

 - play with 는 'play 운동 with someone' 으로 쓰거나, 혹은 아가들한테 쓰는 말. (ex. 애기들한테 "Go play with your friends.") 

 - play with each other이라고 하면 큰 일 난다 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ (성적인 의미) 

 - hang out with 가 '놀다'란 뜻. 

 

If my kids resemble me, ~~ : appearance is simialar; look alike 

If my kids are like me, ~~ : character

The women would come to South Korea and marry much Korean men ~~

 - 선생님이랑 사회문제에 대해 이야기하다가 캐나다에서는 나이 많은 부유한 남자와 매우 어린 여성들간의 결혼이 문제가 되고 있다길래 한국에서는 농촌 지역 싱글 남성들이 동남아에서 온 여성분들과 결혼한다 뭐 이런 이야기하다가 나온 말... 

 - For habits, routine we always use the present tense. 

 - Usaully / generally / often / sometimes / always / never + present tense

 

It can explain who you are (X) --> It says a lot about who you are

 

If you don't have any job (X) --> If you don't have a job / If you don't do anything 

 

<2021.01.28 (Thu)> - Telling a Funny Story from Childhood

flip out : 벌컥 화내다 

 : (informal) to become crazy or very excited or angry. 

 ex) My mom flipped out at my dad for not telling me to peel hard-boiled eggs. 

 ex) I flipped out when I saw how they had changed my work. 

 ex) She's going to flip out when she sees the great present I got her.

fizzy drinks : 거품이 나는 [탄산] 음료 

indigestion : [ɪndɪˈdʒestʃən] 소화불량

digestion : [daɪ|dʒestʃən; dɪ│dʒestʃən] 둘 다 됨 

 

There is a carbonated water.

To be articulate : [adj] [ɑːr│tɪkjələt] ← 형용사일땐 lət : (생각·느낌을) 잘[분명히] 표현하는

 : somebody is very good at expressing themseleves (they are good with words and they seem intelligent) 

 ex) He's articulate 

 

To articulate [sth] [verb] [ɑːr│tɪkjuleɪt] ← 동사일 땐 leɪt : (생각·감정을) 부명히 표현하다[설명하다] 

 : express your feeling using the appropriate words. 

 ex) I can't accurately articulate my feelings. 

 

To be cringeworthy = cringey = 오글거리는, 민망한, 당황스러운 

 : causing feelings of embarrassment of awkwardness.  

 

To cringe : (슬랭) 오글거리다, 1) (겁이 나서) 움츠리다[움찔하다](=cower) 2) 민망하다

 : 1) you do 오글오글 because something is awkward. 

   2) you feel awkward when seeing violence or a horrible situation. 

 ex) The idea of speaking to my husband in English is cringeworthy. 

 : to feel very embarrassed

 : to shrink or recoil in embarrassment 

 ex) I cringed at the sight of my dad dancing

 : to end a relationship with someone suddenly by stopping all communication with them

 ex) I couldn't understand why I'd been ghosted. 

 ex) He ghosted her.

 : 1) making distinctions

   2) applying or favoring discrimination in treatment
