Vocabulary and Phrases - 2월 2주

설날 주간이라 목요일-금요일이 빨간날이어서 패스트원 수업 한 번, 전화영어도 한 번 했다. : ) 

요즘 수업 복습이 좀 밀리고 있었는데 연휴여서 다행이다 ㅎㅎ

beg to differ : politely disagree.

a way of saying "I do not agree" that is polite, but may sound unfriendly.

ex) I beg to differ to your substandard taste in clothes.

ex) He is so arrogant that if someone were to beg to differ to his opinions, he could just never take it.

I think education is the solution (O) 

--> Education is the remedy. (Similar)

Eczema = atopy (skin disease) 

ex) I sometimes have eczema when I mess up my sleeping patterns. 

 

To be starstruck 

: When you see a celebrity and you freeze up or you can't function properly. (or you just feel something overwhelming).

ex) I was starstruck when I saw a member of BTS in Chungdam.

 

To be on the spot

: you are in a situation where you must do something about preparation and people are looking at you.

 ex) My manager asked me in front of everybody if I would sing for the team. He put me on the spot and I felt pressured to say yes. 

 

To be put on the spot : put sb in this situation.

 

A sheep : somebody who follows other people. (without thinking)

ex) People keep acting like sheep these days. 

 

A rat : = 고자질하는 사람. A person who exposes another person's wrongdoings for reasons other than moral outrage or to seek justice. Usually for personal gain, to avoid trouble themselves, or out of jealousy.

 

A snake : a traitor(배신자) / somebody whol will deceive you.  

ex) There are many snakes in that group. You can't trust them. 

 

To hit on [sb] : try to start something romantic with sb.

ex) When he goes to Itaewon, so many guys hit on him and ask for his number. 

 

To be hit or miss : something is either very good/successsful or terrible. 

ex) His ideas are usually very hit or miss. 

 

Animal of the year (X) --> Zodiac sign (O) : 올해가 12간지 무슨 띠인지
